Today, for our final practice teaching of the 3 week Titus training, we were divided into teams to do a 5 hour seminar in which we taught the Inductive Bible Study method through a small book of the Bible. Our team taught the book of Jonah and our hypothetical audience was a rural community in Zimbabwe. Our goal was to teach them how to use the inductive method as a tool for studying the Bible for themselves. Even though it was a practice teaching, it was valuable experience. It made us excited about traveling and teaching in the future! (We are praying about an opportunity Hans has to teach in Swaziland in February.)
Here are some pictures from our practice teaching:

Our teaching team: Hans, Susan, Nick from Zimbabwe, Rahila from Nigeria, and Tanyse from Zimbabwe

This weekend two Titus teams will be heading out to teach what we've been learning for the past three weeks. One team will be going to a nearby township where they will work with a church, facilitating leadership and Bible training and a relationships seminar. The other team will be traveling to Swaziland to teach, as well as to recruit for a 3 month School of Biblical Studies that will be taking place in Swaziland in January. After this, the two teams will join together in a local township that YWAM Muizenberg has been working in, building relationships and connections that we hope will lead to future opportunities to do year round Bible training. We are excited to see the training that takes place on our campus extending to the communities around Cape Town.

Thank you for your prayers!

Titus Training

These are the staff and students of the Titus Project

We began our 3 week Titus Training program last Wednesday. It's a very practical teacher training course that ends in a 2 month outreach into local Cape Town communities. (Since Hans and I will be staff of the 9 month School of Biblical Studies that starts in September, we will not be participating in the outreach portion of the program.)

Some things we are learning:

  • lecture preparation
  • lecture presentation
  • learning styles
  • teaching in an African context
  • reaching oral communicators
  • teaching the inductive method
  • Bible overview/Church history

We have several practice teachings during the 3 week training and the outreach teams will have a very busy teaching schedule in the local townships, including leading pastors conferences, church seminars, and youth groups (we are hoping to join them for a few of these events). So it is a very hands-on course. We are loving the change of pace and are getting excited about the new group of students that will be arriving in September for the next SBS. After seeing the impact of the school we just completed, we have great hopes and expectations for the next school.

We hope you are all doing well... Thank you for your prayers!

Lots of love,
Susan
